course Overview

Good performance management includes an ongoing, two-way dialogue between the manager and staff member. This communication allows clarity and a collaborative approach to expectations, priorities and performance. Learn to initiate hard conversations focussed on behaviour and set clear expectations moving forward.

Completing this workshop will help you:

  • Improve staff performance

  • Clarify expectations and set boundaries

  • Initiate conversations focussed on behaviour and outcomes

  • Encourage a sense of awareness and responsibility

  • Deal with resistance and problematic staff behaviour

Who is the course for?

  • Managers and leaders

  • Executive teams

  • Board members and directors

  • Team leaders

  • Small business owners

  • Volunteer managers

MODULES

  • Use a structured approach to deal with staff issues. From the very initial conversation right through to deciding and communication the consequences of someone’s behaviour.

  • Understand the different styles of leadership, particularly as it relates to conflict. This enables you to strategically decide which style to use depending on the situation in order to get the best outcome possible.

  • Work with a staff member of group to set up clear expectations in terms of behaviour and outcomes. Engage in a conversation in order to establish buy-in where possible, and a common understanding of the consequences.

  • Take a coaching approach to supporting a staff member. Support them to become aware of issues and barriers and develop options to overcome these. Avoid getting sucked in to rescuer mode, and instead work to increase self-efficacy.

  • Learn to demonstrate empathy (not sympathy). Feel more confident ‘holding the line’ where needed and avoid getting sucked in to a situation.
